A. J. Harris Field Experience Scholarship

A.J. Harris II was a 1965 graduate of the IDS program.  He established a scholarship fund exclusively for IDS majors, as a way to help them gain real-world field experience.  If you are planning on an internship experience in Summer 2024, Fall 2024 or Spring 2025, you are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. The application deadline for the 2024-2025 school year scholarships is February 23rd, 2024.

At least 2 scholarships will be awarded.  The award is a minimum of $2,000 for international internships, $1,000 for out-of-state internships and $500 for in-state internships.  Additional scholarships or higher amounts may be awarded for demonstrated financial need and as funds allow.

Students must enroll in SSC 493, SSC 493A, SSC 496 (with an internship component) or a teacher education internship during the semester they receive the scholarship.

Recipients shall be selected on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.  Preference will be given to students who may not otherwise qualify for financial aid. The Selection Committee will also look for evidence of a well-rounded undergraduate education and an interest in career preparation and development.
